PURSUING THE TEJANO IDENTITY

 

Mr. RudyTejano Peña (Rodolfo Peña Jr.) was born at Mercy Hospital, in Laredo, Webb County, Texas.  He is a 1964, Martin High School (Go Tigers!) graduate.  RudyTejano earned a Business Administration Associates Degree in 1972, from Burlington County Community College, in Pemberton, New Jersey.  In 1985, he received a BBA degree from Corpus Christi State University.   After twenty plus years of devoted, loyal military service, Mr. Peña retired from the United States Navy, November 1995. 

 

During his illustrious and dedicated U.S. Navy, career, military assignments took him to places such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Mediterranean Sea, Naples and Trieste Italy, Marseille France, Malta, Greece, the Middle East, South East Asia, Da Nang Vietnam (during the 1968 Tet offensive),  Australia, the Persian Gulf (Desert Shield & Desert Storm, 1990), Bahrain, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Muscat, Mombasa Africa, Guam, Philippines, and numerous other assignments in the continental United States.

 

After retirement Mr. Pena, relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas.  A bachelor, who enjoys working and maintaining his house and yard, caring for Rorrito (Pretty Husky) his faithful, loving companion and the best life has to offer. He grew up listening and enjoying Mexican music, country music, Elvis, rock and roll, the Beatles, the blues, and other popular music. Above all his hearts delight and favorite dancing music is the brassy horn and accordion sound of Tejano music.  However, Mr. Pena’s greatest ambition and passion is his pursuit of the recognition, acknowledgment and inclusion of Texas, born citizens, Tejano or Tejana   identity, unique culture and distinguished historical heritage.  Tejanos and their descendents blessed with Spanish, Spanish/Indigene and any other combined ethnic or race origin, born in the Great State of Tejas, have a Tejano Identity, Culture and distinguished Heritage.
