PURSUING THE TEJANO
IDENTITY
Rudy 'Tejano'
Pena (Rodolfo Peña Jr.) was born in Laredo, Webb County, Texas. He is a
Martin High School (Go Tigers!) graduate. In 1972 Rudy
earned a Business Administration Associates Degree from Burlington
County Community College in Pemberton, NJ. He received a BBA degree
from Corpus Christi State University in 1985. After twenty years of
devoted loyal military service, Mr. Peña retired from the United
States Navy November 1995. During his long dedicated military career,
he served in places such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic,
the Mediterranean Sea, the Middle East, South East Asia, Da Nang
Vietnam (during the 1968 Tet offensive), Australia, Guam, the Persian
Gulf (Desert Shield & Desert Storm), Philippines, and numerous
other assignments in the continental United States. After retirement
Mr. Pena, relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas. He is a bachelor, who
enjoys working on his house, caring for Lobo and woolfy II, his
faithful companions and the best life has to offer. He grew up
listening and enjoying Mexican music, country music, Elvis rock and
roll, the Beatles, the blues, and other popular music. Above all his
hearts delight and favorite dancing music is the
brassy horn and accordion sound of
Tejano music. However, Mr. Pena’s greatest ambition
is his pursuit of the acknowledgment and recognition of Los Tejanos and
Tejanas, Texas and other United States born citizens. Tejanos and
their descendents blessed with a Spanish/Indigene and other cultural
background, born in the Great State of Tejas, have a Tejano Identity,
Culture and distinguished Heritage.
